That Archie tv show your looking for is called "Return to Riverdale". Jughead doing a hip hop version of "Sugar Sugar" is a particular high point.

Oh, and cheers for the shout out. Very Happy

I attended a viewing party when the Archie movie mentioned in the podcast aired on network TV as a Movie of the Week...(I think it was on NBC if I am remembering correctly)...it was a HARD watch. It's about their High School Reunion.

The actor who played Archie was Reba's ex-husband on her sitcom. (I'm not sure why I know that.) You'd probably recognize most of the cast from other projects too. Lauren Holly was Betty.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0099054/

You can buy a VHS copy of the movie directly from Archie comics. But I wouldn't suggest it. =p

BTW, a few years ago, Archie advertised an American-Idol style casting for a live action project, either a band or a maybe a series, that never came to light. It was the last page of most of their titles for several months.

And as far as the new look in the Digests...I feel like the very fact that the Archie characters are so iconic, makes them very easy to see in different formats and styles. Sort of like an Elseworlds thing. I'm not very sure that I love the art style they're using, but it doesn't bother me at all that they decided to do something new.

Apparently they're only doing these stories in the digests for a limited time, and that the regular comics aren't going to change. (That makes the whole thing easier to take, too.)

As for the manga version Sabrina, I was extremely skeptical about that too, but it's really quite good. I've never been a fan of american-style manga at all, but the writer/artist Tania Del Rio has a really great take on the character of Sabrina. Its the only Archie title that I actually READ, and I buy several Archie titles every month.

She did a manga version of Josie and the Pussycats too, as a back-up in Archie & Friends for a while and it was also enjoyable.

I'm just sayin'! ^_^

i love you both, but you're wrong.

the archie series i'm talking about was from somewhere around 1977 - 1979 and the premise was archie & friends were freshmen in college. he & jughead were roomates. the worst part about it is that i can see the actor who played jughead in my head so clearly. he was one of those character actors who popped around from 70's sitcom to sitcom. i want to say he was on happy days as a "greaser" or somesuch.

this is going to drive me nuts. i have to do more research tonight. looks like i'll be joining an archie fan forum tonight!!

well acording to Wikipedia "Return to Riverdale" or "Archie: To Riverdale and Back Again" as it was known in the US was the only live action version of the Archie gang.

Are we 100% certain your not on the crack? You can tell us we're not going to judge.

The only Archies I remember from that time frame was a cartoon, "Archie's Bang-Shang Lalapalooza Show", in 1978. And I'm embarrassed even to have typed that title. Gods the 70s were fucked up.

BTW, I was meaning to ask... Archies? Really? Well, I guess you're not the only one, but it's always been in the Garfield, 'Lil Abner, and Beetle Bailey comics category for me -- something my parents read and liked for reasons that were beyond me.

Of course, I like Hanson, so what do I know?

I never reakkt cared about Archie, so that may be a problem. Anyway, I wanted to thank you guys for putting me on the podcast! That was really cool of you. If you guys need a hook-up to get into Canada, let me know. And if you want a guy who looks like a 25 year old Eric, with a bit more hair, then let me know. Cheers.

There was a 1963 pilot made that never went anywhere, but I doubt that is what Steve is thinking of:
http://www.tv.com/archie/show/5385/summary.html?q=archie&tag=search_results;title;0

I think Steve's just mis-remembering SAVED BY THE BELL: T HE COLLEGE YEARS! LOL
Zack = Archie. Slater = Reggie, Screech = Jughead

just teasing

That might be it, and it would explain why I have no idea what Steve was talking about.

You have first hand knowledge of my Archie afflictions, so you know I've been racking my brain.

Wow. I've never heard of that either. I need to check and see if I have that one. Thanks!
