I was looking forward to this. First off, have become a real big fan of Matt Fraction. I like his take/knowledge of the X-Men is pretty spot on. He knows these characters, he really nails it with the dialogue.
But anyway, this issue was fun. Though I will say to Dazzler fans that the cover is very misleading... (hint: she's not in the book). Regardless, awesome work by Alan Davis as always. Beautiful book to look at, worth the read alone for that. Yay, he draws Illyana again (though not sure about the hair. I'll live with it, its Davis). Good stuff, solid read. And the story moves along... As for spoilers:
Click here to see the hidden message and/or spoilers... Marrina fans are going to be pissed. |

| How I wish they would systematically execute Greg Land and put Alan Davis on the Uncanny X-men. It was so disheartening to see such beautiful art and then realize it's just a friggin' one shot. |

I've actually grown to like Greg Land's art, strictly in a way I like TRASHY things. How could it be seen as anything but. Every once in a while he'll compose a panel or use a pose that I like. BUT, emotions he definitely CANNOT convey accurately. His Cyclops is a mess to look at. He did an awful job this last issue (#515).
But yeah, Alan Davis can take over the X-Men (or the entire Marvel U) any day. |

This issue confused me for one reason... Marrina was killed by the Sub-Mariner in Avengers 293 by using the Black Knight's Ebony Blade. Of course when Kang took of the Earth later on the Avengers were confronting The Master of The World, Marrina's body was shown floating in a tube with various other members of her race. I suppose this could be the outcome of that. Still, they dug a little deep to pull this one off. That makes me wonder if they'll ever do anything with Mer another member of the Plodex race that appeared in the forgettable Alpha Flight vol 3?
Having Namor as a sworn enemy could be very bad for Norman. I just wonder (and I suppose we'll see the outcome of this in Seige) if the fact that the Atlantean army and the Asgardians are living in Laveria will be a source of contention for Norman. That makes 3-4 (counting Emma) of the Cabal in a strong alliance.

| I almost feel like it wasn't even the real Marrina... There seemed no effort to help her on anyone's part, a bit drastic. And then, plop right into Norman's office. I only have a passing knowledge of her. But I loved her "re-introduction" in a sense. "We keep her in a constant state of estrus..." that line was so visceral It stuck with me for a week. haha. Solid read, great art. |
