For all you bear chasers, I'll be bringing my friend Ben with me this time. Anyone have any recommendations for places to stay nearby that's not too expensive?

Ben reserved us a room at the Heart of Chicago Motel, which is near his favourite bars, Jackhammer and Touche. It's a bit of a hike to Steamwo....I mean, the Center on Halsted for the comic con, but not too bad. Maybe we'll just have to host a party at the hotel.

We have it booked from Thursday evening to Monday morning.

The Heart o' Chicago isn't very far from my apartment.

BTW, I'm mentioning this kind of late, but I have a really comfortable sofa and a queen-size air mattress if anyone needs a place to stay while they're here. I have two cats and a dog, so if you're allergic, bring some Allegra or something. Also, I ask that my guests refrain from chopping me up, fucking my corpse, and sticking my head in a freezer. That's just tacky.

Woo, Windy City Comicon! I found you guys through there.

I'll be there as a part of the web comics class. I got me a big ole gay webcomic called Finn and Charlie are HITCHED.

Your comic has been running since 2006, and this is the first I've seen it! I have two years worth of archives to read today! Whee! I look forward to meeting you at WCCC.

I know this is knitpicking, but it bugs me a little. Why won't the boys on Around Comics (another swell podcast) and on the windycitycomicon site mention that the Center on Halsted is a community center for us 'mos, queers, questioning, etc.? In fact they go out of their way NOT to mention it. Those guys are certainly not freaked out by the homos so I'm wondering what the reasoning is?

Is there little faith that the comics enjoying public would not be able to handle going to a GLBTQ center? I know we've all seen homophobic and vile stuff on Newsarama boards and other places in the past but I always thought those people were a small minority. Am I wrong?

i won't presume to answer for the AC boys, but i'll give you my take....

they hate faggots.

nah, i'm kidding...tom katers is one of the best french kissers i've ever met. personally, i think it's funny that they don't mention it, only for us to call them out on it. hell, tom calls them out on it on their show! is there a reason they should mention the facility hosting their convention is a glbtq community center?

tom? chris? you out there??? (what? they sometimes show up here)

Tom certainly alluded to something in the most recent AC podcast. He may have been a little too subtle, though. Ya think?

Yeah, they are totally not homophobes, although Chris N. once made a bad gay joke in jest and I could hear the other fellows give him a "that was awful" look in the podcast. So yeah, I know they are cool and fabulous and great in bed but do they think it may deter some comics fans?

And it's not that they have to mention it is a GLBTQ center but when they made effort (at least in one or two podcasts) to hide that fact is what got me wondering...
