I totally agree - and to think I almost didn't pick it up. Its about time something actually HAPPENED in Secret Invasion.

Skrulls are revealed and dealt with ! Nice people die ! Actual fights ! Sacrifices !
ALISTAIRE STUART IS BACK !
Captain Britain cuts his hair and gets a new old costume !

I enjoyed the Pete Wisdom mini series and this was a nice read too…
The storytelling is NOT decompressed, which is nice, but I've read it only once (rather fast) and have a little overall confusion feeling. But I'm not a native english speaker, so I guess I'll read it again very soon. Any good story featuring Captain Britain has my vote.

I just hope that

That would be an interesting story to tell, but would make me very sad as Alan Davis's Excalibur is THE comic of my late teen years…

All I loved about Alan Davis's work has been flushed to the toilets.
Meggan is supposedly dead, Kitty's dead (well, it will happen a few months ago Confused *), Nightcrawler hasn't been decently portrayed in ages and anything related to Otherworld or Courtney Ross has been an incoherent mess. I'm getting off topic but THANK YOU, Mr Claremont. Not. (But you're not the only butcher around.)
I guess dwelling on story lines that are 15 years old is a decent sign that I'm getting old… *sigh*

Regarding this issue, I was a bit disappointed by the art. None of the familiar characters were recognizable, which made some introductory dialogue scenes a bit confusing. Wisdom looks a bit like Stuart and Stuart is er… blondish and 10 years older than he should ? I always found Leonard Kirk's art a little bland, but that didn't stop me enjoying his Supergirl issues back in the days. He's improved since then so I guess I'm being a little picky…

* or did it happen in a few weeks ?

PS : Wow, that was a lot of "bits" and "littles"

I too read the Wisdom mini series very quickly, and was really confused. But I did notice that Alistaire Stuart is back!! And he's like 10-15 years older with gray hair, which I didn't like.

But back to CB and MI13...yes, it's true...

Okay, so I picked up this first issue yesterday and read it. I have to say I really liked it. I agree with Brett about CB and Wisdom. Oh another thing I really need to get Wisdom's mini series cause I like that character now after reading this issue, I didnt know their was a mini series. I will have to add this comic to my list at my comic book shop I go to.
I liked the art too. I really like how the Black Knight looks too. I'm not too familiar with all the British charaters, like Spitfire. I will have to do some Wikipedia to read on some of these British characters. Oh and I loved Alan Davis's Excalibur.
I can't wait to read the rest of this story. Now is Captain Britian and MI:13 going to be an ongoing series?
I hope so.
Very Happy

I loved the twist in the end of Wisdom... the kid will grow up to be Killraven. I hope we see Union Jack in hear as well from time to time as well as the Sabra and Arabian Knight from Gage's Union Jack mini. As for Bian and Pete..I agree with you guys. They have a great dynamic to play off of. It would be a shame to do anything to disturb that. I'm REALLY looking forward to more Black Knight though. He is being written differently in this than the last time we saw him though. I hope they are able to rectufy that mess Hudlin started in Black Panther regarding the Black Knight and who actually possesses the Ebony Blade.

I hope a Misery-like fan doesn't come for Paul Cornell !

I guess it's a way to give Captain Britain a second origin (oups, I meant third ?), some kind of rebirth. He's been more "Captain Otherworld" than anything else for something like 20 years… He always was a true hero, very human, but reluctant by nature. That doesn't really fit an iconic super-hero wearing a flag on his chest. (Er… am I stating the obvious again ? That's what the story is about after all…)

After reading the issue again, I think you're right Brett.
I have to say that this issue is even better than I thought. It's been a while since I had this "more ! what's next ?" feeling after reading a 1st.
Cornell gives us action, introduces new characters, makes revelations on older ones (I googled Spitfire, and what she does seems to be a first), apparently makes good use of an imposed cross-over and sets things up for the bigger picture. All-around good job, I'd say.
Alistaire is still totally wrong though.
And apart almost nobody looking like themselves, the art is not bad at all.

Although there is a reason why Alan Davis dropped this version of Captain Britain's costume, it was nice to see it back.
Anyone remembers the good old days when any costume change had to be justified in the story ?

The cover of issue #2 makes me wonder… Is that supposed to be the Sword of Might ? Good or bad, it would be difficult to ignore what has been done with it lately…

Yes, but we pronounce it "stroked".

It's pretty awesome. I love the whole Avalon is Britain's collective subconscious thing. I love Tink. And I really like this Faiza woman. It's like Cecilia Reyes all over again.

I miss Cecilia Reyes. They need to bring her back in a supporting type role, kinda like Moira MacTaggert. (Moira's still dead right?)

Doesnt Cecilia Reyes essentially have the powers of Armor? I think the characters they introduced during the Operation Zero Tolerance era were actually quite interesting, even Marrow had potential if she hadn't been written so awfully at times.
I'd like to see Cecilia Reyes back too, I think she'd fit quite well into a team like X-Factor.
