So I watched this anime from beginning to end quite a while ago on DVD and absolutely loved it. I was in Borders today and saw that they had a bunch of volumes of the manga, but wasn't sure if I should get it. Has anyone read this? Is it worth reading if you've seen the anime? I've never actually read much manga before, is this a good place to start?

It's a great series, isn't it? I haven't read the manga, but it's got really high ratings on the Anime News Network -- around a 10 out of 11 with 740 votes, so it sounds like a pretty safe bet.

And, if you're really into it, there's a ton of merchandise opportunities for this series, including a State Alchemists' pocket watch, so you can geek out like nobody's business.
