I don’t mean that in a holy-crap-that-was-awesome way. I mean it in a I-don’t-understand-what-just-happened way. Where do I start?
First quick back story. Someone did something somewhere related to Darkseid. I am not familiar with Darkseid except that I know he is evil because his did THIS. In any case, this event opened a barrier between universes and The Outsider and his gal pal crossed into our world. BTW, The Outsider is the mysterious dude that has been talking in shadow this whole time except for last issue when he said OPEN THE BOX!
We then get some clarification that Superman never killed Dr.Light in Issue #1, it was all a rouse. A clever attempt to trick everyone. The Outsider just wanted to find Pandora’s Evil Box of Evil and was too lazy to look for it himself so he created this incredibly elaborate plan to trick the JLA into finding it for him which was unnecessary because Pandora sought them out, not the other way around. I really don’t get what happened in that image above (click for larger image.) Did they capture the Justice Leaguers and make evil counterparts? Did the clone them? Did they create them from scratch? Is this on our Earth? Seriously, can someone answer this question?
The next 12 pages are every hero being corrupted by the Evil Box of Evil and fighting.
Batman wants to kill Superman, Steve Trevor wants to also kill Superman, Superman wants to kill Green Lantern and Batman. There is a lot crammed in here and some of it doesn’t make sense to me. For example, this exchange between Aquaman and Mera:
A) I don’t understand her answer to his question. She’s not here? She’s not Mera?
B) I don’t understand why she had a weird Swamp Thing-y arm all of a sudden
Whatever. We soon find out that the reason Superman has been sick is because he has a piece of Kryptonite in his brain. The Atom is a traitor and she flew into his ear and put it there in Issue #1. Cyborg is also a traitor, sort of. Unbeknownst to him, he was infected by The Grid virus.
It separates itself from Cyborg and leaves him to die. Why? Because Pandora’s Evil Box of Evil isn’t the birthplace of evil on our Earth, it is a gateway to Earth-3, where this fake Atom (Atomica) is from. The Outsider opens the gateway and an evil Aquaman comes through. He’s dreamy with a beard and long hair and a claw hand and an awesome purple costume and… he promptly dies. WTH?!
It is then revealed that The Crime Syndicate is here and ready for their own DC cross-over month and their own series in Forever Evil #1. Oh, and P.S. the evil The Outsider is actually Alfred Pennyworth, Owlman’s (evil Batman’s) butler, and the Evil Green Lantern is ‘fraidycat that will probably be the downfall of the Crime Syndicate.
I didn’t know what The Crime Syndicate was but I guess that was a big thing in past. It was confusing to me, as was this book, but now that I did some research (A.K.A. asked my friend Ryan Abney to explain it), I think it sounds pretty cool. See you in Forever Evil #1, I guess. *sigh*
